Mike Guingona was born in San Francisco and moved to Daly City at age 3. He attended Daly City public schools and graduated from Westmoor High where, during his senior year, he was elected class president.
Mike attended Skyline College for two years before transferring to the University of California Los Angeles where he earned a B.A. in history. He then returned home, to Daly City, where he studied law at the University of San Francisco Law School. He received his law degree in 1989 and was admitted to the California Bar Association.
In 1993 Mike became the first Filipino American to be elected to the Daly City Council and one of the youngest elected officials in the Bay Area. Mike represented Daly City to many important groups including the San Mateo County Transportation Authority which he chaired from 2001 to 2007. Mike served his community as a member of the San Mateo County Transportation Authority which he chaired from 2001 until 2007.Mike was also actively involved with Daly City’s Sister Committee and instrumental in initiating the Daly City-Quezon partnership.
Over the years, Mike has worked hard on projects that changed the face of the community: The renovation of Westlake, Skyline and St. Francis shopping centers as well as youth, senior and community centers. He worked to upgrade of streets, lighting, landscaping, parks and signs. His vision for an updated Mission Street and a completed Pacific Plaza became a reality.
Mike established his own law practice specializing in criminal defense in 1999. He became a father to son, Kai, in 1999. In 2008 Mike married for the second time.
His wife, Jackie, is an actress, writer and director. A former tennis champion, Jackie came to the U.S. on a tennis scholarship.
